What ties these stories together, and why I wanted to build a whole world rather than a single boo
When I sat down to write Blackwater Parish, I thought I was writing one book. I was wrong. What I had actually started was the first chapter of a much larger world, and that world has a name. A Southern Lady's Guide to Revenge.
The Idea Behind the Series
Welcome to the south, where family names open doors, secrets are buried deep, and revenge is best served with impeccable manners. That sentence is the closest thing I have to a mission statement for this series.
A Southern Lady's Guide to Revenge is a southern gothic suspense series filled with psychological intrigue, unforgettable women, and long buried secrets that refuse to stay hidden. It is set against haunting landscapes of bayous, historic estates, and small towns where everyone knows your name but no one tells the whole truth.
What Each Book Promises
Every novel in the series follows a woman forced to confront powerful men, painful pasts, and the lies that have shaped her life. These are stories rich with atmospheric settings, slow burning tension, shocking twists, and real emotional depth. They blend psychological suspense with southern charm and dark family drama.
Here is a promise I made to myself early on. Every book delivers a complete mystery. You will not have to wait for the next release to feel satisfied. At the same time, each story reveals a little more of a larger world, one where justice rarely comes through the courts and revenge is often the only path left.
Where *Blackwater Parish* Fits
Blackwater Parish is the first book in the series, and it sets the tone for everything that follows. Catherine Beaumont's story is self contained. You can read it on its own and reach a true ending. But it also opens the door to the world these women live in, a world of inherited power, polished surfaces, and secrets passed down like heirlooms.
Starting here means starting at the foundation. If you want to understand the rules of this world before the series grows, Catherine is your introduction to them.
The Women at the Center
This series is built around strong female protagonists and morally complex characters. I am not interested in spotless heroines. I am interested in real women who have been underestimated, dismissed, controlled, and harmed, and who decide they are done waiting for someone else to set things right.
In the south I am writing about, women whose lives have been destroyed by powerful men do not wait for justice. They follow the rules of revenge to serve it. The sweetest smile can conceal the sharpest plan. That tension, between charm and steel, between respectability and ruin, is the heartbeat of the whole series.
Why a Series and Not Just a Book
I could have told one story and moved on. I did not want to. The more time I spent in this world, the more I realized how many women had a story worth telling here. Powerful families protect themselves across generations. The patterns repeat. The settings shift, but the questions stay urgent.
My nursing background plays a quiet role in this choice. I have spent years watching how harm travels through families and how long it can stay hidden behind a calm exterior. A single book could not hold all of that. A series can.
The World These Stories Share
What unites the series is not a single recurring character but a recurring kind of world. Bayous that hold their secrets. Historic estates with beautiful surfaces and rotten foundations. Small towns where everyone knows your name but no one tells the whole truth. In this world, respectability is a weapon and justice is patient, and the women who live here learn both lessons the hard way.
Each book lets me explore a different corner of that world and a different woman's reckoning within it. The atmosphere carries across the series even as the specific story changes.
What This Means for You
If you love immersive southern gothic fiction, strong women, and stories about reclaiming power and exposing hidden truths, this series was built for you. Each book stands alone, so you can enter wherever you like. But Blackwater Parish is the beginning, and there is something special about being there from the start. You will watch the rules of this world reveal themselves in real time.
Still waters run deep. The calm on the surface tells you nothing. That is the first rule of this world, and it is a good place to begin. I am so glad to finally pull back the curtain and show you what I have been building. There is far more of it to come.
