Our Book Launch Party at Spring Haven Farm

Celebrating Scout's Adventure Day at the farm the real Scout the goat calls home

We threw a launch party for Goat on the Go: Scout's Adventure Day at Spring Haven Farm, and I am not sure I have stopped smiling since. Launching a book about a goat, at the very farm that is home to the real goat who started it all, was about as much fun as a day can hold.

A Morning Full of Readers

Families came out to celebrate Scout's big birthday adventure, and the whole place buzzed with the kind of happy chaos only a farm full of children can create. I signed copies, met readers, and watched little ones flip excitedly through a story that had only just arrived in the world. Signing a book for the child who will actually read it never gets old. You see their face, you learn their name, and a book turns into a connection right there in front of you.

The Home of Scout the Goat

Here is what made the day truly special. Spring Haven Farm is home to Scout himself, the real goat. Watching children meet a living, breathing Scout after reading about him on the page was pure magic. The story stepped right off the paper and into the farmyard, hay and all. The kids lit up, and honestly, so did I.

How Scout Came Into My Life

People always want to know about the real Scout, and I love telling them. So how did I become his bonus mom?

It all started on a chilly March night in 2021, when I got a call from Spring Haven Farm. Mama Mercy, the sweetest Nigerian Dwarf goat, had just given birth to twins. She had a darling little girl named Winnie, and I had the honor of naming her spunky, adventurous brother. I chose Scout.

Little did I know that Scout and I would become fast buddies, or that I was in for a wild and entertaining ride learning all about goat kids and their mischievous, playful personalities. He has kept me laughing and on my toes ever since, and he is every bit as spirited as the character he inspired. Not that he has any idea he is now the star of four books.

The Perfect Place to Celebrate

A Goat on the Go book belongs on a farm, so there was really no better place to launch this one than the farm Scout calls home. The hay, the animals, the open air, all of it let families step into Scout's world instead of just reading about it.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made it such a joyful morning. Celebrating Scout's big day surrounded by real readers and one very real, very mischievous goat is a memory I will hold onto for a long time.
